Nostalgia for the 1950s and ’60s it seems will never go out of style, and many people like to try and remember or re-live those bygone decades by redecorating their home with a retro look. Part and parcel with that look is the cool styling of retro bar stools. These are usually swivel bar stools designed to look like the seating found at the counters in 1950s diners and soda fountains. You know, like Arnold’s place on that show Happy Days or the hip teen hangouts in those old surfer movies. A common look is a metal framed stool with a colored, upholstered seat. The idea behind these seats is to add a touch of class or nostalgia to the home.
In some cases these stools will be combined with decorations that evoke earlier eras such as old signs or pictures. Others may try to put in a counter top similar to the ones used in diners and soda fountains.
Bar Nostalgia
Another kind of nostalgia is to try and recreate the corner bar of the 1950s. This is usually done by putting in a bar and bar stools that look like the ones found in classic American bars.
Wooden bar stools or swivel bar stools can be added to such a theme to give it a little more authenticity. Classic bar decorations such as old advertisements for cigarettes, beer or liquor can be added to add atmosphere.
Where to Find Retro bar Stools
There are a number of excellent online outlets that specialize in retro bar stools and other retro furniture. These outlets can help find such classic pieces as the diner counter stool and the diner setback counter seat. These are authentic looking recreations of classic restaurant seating.
For those whose nostalgia leans more towards the British Isles classic pub stools are also available. Pub stools would be a great decoration for a pool or billiards room.
Even bucket seating like that often found in truck stops and Las Vegas Casinos is available online. Such seating would be an interesting conversation piece for a recreation room.
One thing to keep in mind is that bar stools with backs will cost more when ordered online. Upholstered and metal bar stools will also be more expensive. Although some simple bar stools can be ordered for less than $100.
