Upholstered bar stools are generally more comfortable than wooden or other plain bar stools. The most common rec room, game room or home bar stools are those with a metal frame and an upholstered seat. Most people prefer upholstered stools because they look good and look more comfortable to sit on. In particular, upholstered bar stools just feel so much better to sit on for extended periods of time.
Even backless counter stools can be more comfortable when they are upholstered. The upholstery will usually contain a cushion that will be easier to sit on. A common kind of upholstered stools is swivel stools. These swivel around like the stools found in bars and diners and provide a more comfortable and informal feel. A drawback to swivel stools is that they spin around which can be dangerous if children are using them.
Upholstery Maintenance
One thing that has to be taken into consideration when ordering upholstered kitchen bar stools or rec room seating is that the upholstery does require some maintenance. It can wear out, get stained and get torn which entails some taking care of and even an occasional repair or two.
Also, most upholstery will also have to be replaced every few years. This means that upholstered stools may require extra maintaining to keep them looking good and clean for the long term.
Of course, on the bright side, an advantage to upholstery is that it can be replaced to change the style of the chair. A good way to save money is to buy used upholstered chairs and reupholster them.
Comfort
Another consideration is that not everybody finds stools comfortable or easy to sit on. Children and smaller individuals may have a hard time sitting on stools. The elderly, the handicapped and those with back problems may not be able to sit on a stool for a long period of time.
These people might be better served by a stool with a back. This will feature a comfortable upholstered chair on the stool. The chair could be more comfortable to sit in for many people.
Most upholstered stools will merely have an upholstered seat with hard metal or wooden back. This can be comfortable for some people but not for others. Individuals with back problems may not be able to sit in a chair with an un-cushioned back.
